HARRY POTTER - POP N° 16 - Sirius Black

Sirius Black was imprisoned in Azkaban on false murder charges, but escaped to reunite with Harry Potter. He is a character whose courage, penchant for evil, and Animagus form are unforgettable and essential in helping Harry Potter learn more about his parents and himself. Every Padfoot fan will need this Sirius Black Pop! for their collection. The collectible measures approximately 3.75 inches tall.

Sirius Black was born on November 3, 1959 to Orion and Walburga Black. He has never been married. Sirius does not share the opinions of the Black family, an old line of pure-blood wizards proud of it, considering it a nobility, and generally agreeing with Voldemort's ideas. Sirius was the only one in his family to be in Gryffindor house, his entire family was in Slytherin house. He died on June 17, 1996 in the Death Room, in the Department of Mysteries, killed by Bellatrix Lestrange.

Sirius is James Potter's best friend. With Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, they form the Marauders group. At 16, Sirius runs away from the family home he hated to go live with James. His mother Walburga never forgave him and disowned him. He is arrested by the Muggle police for speeding (episode told in the prologue to Harry Potter ). A year later, the Marauders finish their schooling. James marries Lily Evans, Sirius is his best man, and in 1980, when Harry is born, he will become his godfather.

The same year, the war against Voldemort has already begun. The Marauders and Lily belong to the Order of the Phoenix. The Potter family is in danger because Voldemort has discovered a prophecy targeting their son Harry. They lock themselves away in their home in Godric's Hollow thanks to the Fidelius Charm and make Sirius Black their secret keeper. Consequently, he is the only one who knows their hiding place. However, Sirius finds the idea too obvious for Voldemort not to think of it and convinces them to take Peter instead. The latter, having already gone over to Voldemort's side, reveals to him the hiding place of James and Lily, which allows him to kill them.

Sirius, suspecting the plan, goes to Peter's to check that he is safe but his hiding place is empty. He then flies to Godric's Hollow on his flying motorcycle and discovers the disaster. Hagrid, sent by Albus Dumbledore to collect Harry, follows Dumbledore's instructions and refuses to entrust the child to Sirius. Sirius then gives him his motorcycle and then goes after Peter. He corners him in a street full of Muggles. Peter then shouts that Sirius killed James and Lily then he causes an explosion that kills a dozen Muggles, cuts off a finger to make believe that Sirius killed him and flees through the sewers, in his rat form. Sirius is then arrested without any resistance on his part. Barty Crouch Sr. sends him to Azkaban without granting him a trial for the murder of Peter Pettigrew and twelve Muggles.

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban , while Sirius is imprisoned in Azkaban, he recognizes Peter Pettigrew in his rat form in a newspaper and decides to escape to kill him. At the end of the book, he manages to reunite Ron, Hermione and Harry in the Shrieking Shack and explains to them what really happened. Harry, still believing Sirius is responsible for the death of his parents, refuses to believe that Scabbers, Ron's rat, is the animagus form of Peter Pettigrew. It is then that Remus arrives in the hut and hugs Sirius, Remus having been able to see Peter Pettigrew's name on the Marauder's Map, he deduced that he was still alive. They are then interrupted by Severus Snape whom Harry incapacitates. The two Marauders then return Peter to his human form and Harry accepts the truth. He prevents Sirius and Remus from killing Peter and decides to hand him over to the dementors. However, Remus, not having taken his Wolfsbane potion, transforms into a werewolf and in the confusion, Peter manages to transform into a rat and escape. Sirius therefore loses any chance of rehabilitation and is taken prisoner at Hogwarts while waiting for the Dementors. By going back in time thanks to Hermione's Time Turner, Harry and Hermione manage to save Sirius from the Dementor's kiss which consists of sucking out his soul, and Sirius flies away on the back of the hippogriff Buckbeak, also saved that night.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire , Sirius is hiding in a tropical region, far from the Dementors. He corresponds regularly with his godson Harry, to whom he means a lot. When he learns that his scar is hurting, Sirius decides to return to the North, for Harry, much to Harry's dismay. Sirius is still actively sought by the Ministry of Magic. He hides with Buckbeak in a cave near Hogsmeade. He gives Harry information and advice throughout the year. After Voldemort is reborn, Sirius is present when Harry recounts his evening in Dumbledore's office and watches over him in the hospital wing. He then leaves Harry to contact the former members of the Order of the Phoenix as per Dumbledore's wish.

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix , Sirius has made the house at 12 Grimmauld Place where he spent his childhood available to the Order of the Phoenix to become its headquarters. Sirius must remain cloistered in this house that he hates, his head being put to price and the Death Eaters knowing his status as an Animagus thanks to Peter. He keeps in touch with Harry as often as possible by means of letters or by his nocturnal appearances in the fireplace of the Gryffindor common room, but he will almost be captured by Dolores Umbridge who watches all the fires of Hogwarts. Sirius explains to him almost everything about Voldemort's plans, which is reproached to him by Molly Weasley, who accuses him of confusing his godson with his best friend James, Harry's father. At the end of June, Voldemort sends Harry a false vision according to which Sirius is his prisoner in the Department of Mysteries of the Ministry. This is a ruse to take possession of the prophecy, Voldemort needing Harry to have it. Thanks to Snape who raised the alarm, the members of the Order of the Phoenix, including Sirius, join Harry and his friends at the Ministry of Magic as quickly as possible. Away from the ensuing battle, Sirius confronts his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange near a mysterious arch in front of which is stretched a veil that seems to undulate on its own. Bellatrix quickly puts an end to the fight by casting a spell on him, which throws him through the arch with no hope of return. The film version differs on this point, Sirius being shot by an avada kedavra and his soul sucked through the veil.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows , as Harry is heading towards certain death, he uses the Resurrection Stone to summon his parents, Remus and Sirius. They appear less solid than a living human but more real than a ghost. All four of them have a youthful, happy, and serene appearance.

Sirius Black is played in the film by Gary Oldman and James Walter, who plays the role of 17-year-old Sirius.

(*) A figure Bobblehead , sometimes translated as "bobblehead figure", is a type of collectible toy, often with a head that is oversized relative to its body. Instead of a solid connection to the rest of the body, it is connected to it by a spring or hook so that the head bobs when touched, hence the name.
