Based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, Disney's Mulan (1998) is set in China during the Han Dynasty, where Fa Mulan, daughter of the elderly warrior Fa Zhou, poses as a man in order to take her father's place during a general conscription to counter an invasion by the Huns. The groundbreaking story was a critical and commercial success, and will be revisited once again in a live-action remake set for 2020.
