Monkey D. Luffy is a pirate and is the main protagonist of the One Piece manga and anime . Luffy is the son of the leader of the Revolutionary Army, Dragon, the grandson of the famous Vice Admiral of the Navy, Garp, the adopted son of a mountain bandit, Curly Dadan, and the adopted brother of the deceased Portgas D Ace "Burning Fists" and Sabo. His dearest dream is to become the Pirate Lord by finding the legendary treasure hidden somewhere by Gol D. Roger. For him, being the Pirate Lord means being the one with the most freedom in the world. He ate a Devil Fruit: the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which was brought back from a trip by the Roux Pirates. As the founder and captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, he is the first member of the crew as well as one of the crew's three strongest fighters.

Luffy has a worldwide reputation for causing trouble even among the 7 Corsair Captains, the Navy, even defying one of the Four Emperors and committing crimes against - as well as actions that are considered dangerous by - the Government Global. He received a reputation for being "reckless" and "crazy", in some cases, after causing an incident at Enies Lobby, infiltrating and escaping Impel Down, and joining the Battle of Marineford. Having had a bounty of 300,000,000 Berry before his arrival at Sabaody Archipelago, Luffy was one of the eleven renowned pirates referred to as the "Supernova Eleven", the eleven pirates with bounties above 100,000,000 to have arrived at the same time on the Sabaody archipelago.
