Buu (Majin Bū) is a fictional character created by Akira Toriyama in the Dragon Ball manga in 1984.

Millions of years before the events of Dragon Ball, when humans on Earth were just beginning to walk, the wizard Bibidi created a monster named Buu to dominate the universe. This monster proved completely uncontrollable and attacked the Kaioshin (the gods of the universe, obstacles to Bibidi): he killed those of the North and West and absorbed the one of the South (the strongest). He then took on an imposing form. Finally, he absorbed Dai Kaioshin. As the latter had a peaceful and good heart, Buu's character as well as his physical appearance changed completely: Buu became plump with a childish disposition.

Buu was then imprisoned in a cocoon by his creator, terrified by the creature. The youngest Kaioshin (the one from the East), the sole survivor of the massacre, found Bibidi and killed him in his sleep to leave Buu forever trapped in his cocoon hidden on Earth.
