Created in 2011, Hunter x Hunter is a Japanese anime series that is a reboot of the original 1999 series based on the manga.
The story begins with a young boy named Gon Freecss, who one day discovers that his father, whom he believed to be dead, is actually alive and well. He learns that his father, Ging, is a legendary "Hunter," an individual who has proven to be an elite member of humanity.
Despite Ging leaving his son with family to pursue his own dreams, Gon is determined to follow in his father's footsteps, pass the rigorous "Hunter Exam," and find his father to become a Hunter himself.
